WHO WE HONOR
We stand on the sacred lands of many tribes. We commit to better using our resources to serve the land, native stewardship and indigenous sovereignty. We dedicate our work to the larger prayer of Water is Life.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by Mother Earth and the vast network of life she holds in this orbit around our Sun. We honor the galaxies and our observation of them as we continue to create our myth and meaning based on celestial movements. As did our grandmothers and those that came before them.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by the Southern Resident Orcas and their deeply empathic matriarchal sisterhood as they fight extinction in their ancient home, the Salish Sea. Free the Snake River! Let the salmon run. May we fight for our life.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by this incredible book by Alexis Pauline Gumbs. Undrowned is a book-length meditation for the entire human species, based on the subversive and transformative lessons of marine mammals. It is our holy text.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by the economic systems of the Beguines, a sect of European holy women who created vast networks of sister tradesmen with profits that benefitted mutual aid networks for the poor in the Dark Ages. By conscientiously supporting each other, they harnessed the power of their resources to safeguard higher values and their collective good.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by the Gee’s Bend community of quilter’s in Alabama who elevated fabric remnants into works of modern art during the 1920-40s. Like these women, some unrecognized in their time, we owe everything to black artists, teachers and thinkers who often innovate without credit or compensation.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by Rosie Finn and Carol Trasatto - the creators of Plants and Planets, a newsletter and monthly oratory where an inter-generational healing community gathered to hear these visionaries offer insight into the astrological and herbal season ahead. The gathering was a profound source of hope, connection and shared wisdom that spanned nearly two decades.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by Nalgona Positivity Pride, a body-positive platform creating visibility and resources for Black, Indigenous, communities of color (BICC). Founder Gloria Lucas merges art, fashion, education and media to create powerful spaces for healing.
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by Pleasure Activism author Adrienne Marie Brown, black feminist and writer who channels the work of Octavia Butler in visioning the next world. She wrote “Our radical imagination is a tool for decolonization, for reclaiming our right to shape our lived reality.”
-
Psychic Sister is inspired by the work of Kanako, who built a community of gleaners, do-ers and makers at their shop Dumpster Values, the center of art, music and activist history in Olympia, Washington.
