You are invited to a participatory, generative exploration of the ethical considerations around being a responsible reader or seer. This workshop will be relevant whether you're an emergent or experienced practitioner, and whether your work centers self, community, or the larger planetary body.

Topics of exploration:

  • divination & cultural appropriation, capitalism, & colonialism

  • free will & dependence on visionary powers

  • what to speak & when to stay silent

  • 'the future' and notions of fixed destiny

  • wielding one's power responsibly

  • human future(s) in western vs indigenous worldviews

  • trauma awareness and cultural competencies

Ritual & facilitated discussion will be dynamically informed by participant engagement; this workshop enthusiastically welcomes diverse perspectives. Bring a notebook & divination tools if you have them.

Laura Perlin (she/her/hers) is a tarot reader and ritualist working with personal & collective healing and self-actualization. She works especially with pathfinding, crossroads navigation, and problems of a mysterious nature rooted in the spirit world. Her approach to healing work is anchored in anti-oppression practice and animist sensibilities, and centers the ritual healing modalities into which she's been initiated by the spirits and her mentors in Sakha Republic (far north east Siberia, Russian Federation).

Laura's family migrated to the US from the Soviet Union as settler/refugees, and she grew up on Ohlone lands in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been reading cards and practicing her familial lineage traditions since childhood. Laura is of Ashkenazi & Mizrahi Jewish, Sakha, Roma, and Karelian ancestry. She shares her time between San Francisco and her ancestral lands of Sakha Republic. Her work is a reflection of her life as a boundary walker: navigating multi-national, multi-cultural experience as a multi-racial person working across mundane and spirit worlds. Laura sees private clients for healing and self-development work and teaches internationally. She is currently working on an English translation of a book on traditional Sakha shamanism, and plans to lead pilgrimages to sacred indigenous sites in Sakha Republic in 2020. Connect at
